In the West Midlands county of England, one can find the urban city of Birmingham. Outside London, it is the city with the largest population (as of 2009, 1,028,700 people reside in Birmingham with a density of 3,739/km2). The vicinity in which it lies is the heart of West Midlands conurbation (UK’s 2nd most populous urban area). The city was founded backi n the 7th Century. The administrative headquarters for the city is The Council House. It follows a Metropolitan borough-type government under the leadership of Lord Mayor Cllr. Len Gregory. Most of its MPs hail from the Labour Party. It spans about an area of 267.77 km2 and is situated at a height of 459 ft. It has a multi-ethnic society with Blacks, Whites, South Asians, etc. completing the composition.
CLIMATE OF BIRMINGHAM
The city witnesses an oceanic typic of climate. Birmingham’s mercury reading records is very much similar to most of the British Isles. Mean max. temperature during summers is 20°C while during winters it is around 4.5°C. The extreme limits of weather is rarely seen but there have been tornado attacks (most recent was of July 2005). Due to its situation on a high elevation, snowfalls are quite frequent. The city also witnesses a urban heat island influence. SIGHTSEEING IN BIRMINGHAM
Tourists should be relishing their chance to visit Birmingham as it has a lot to serve them in terms of sightseeing.
